Community Service Program
In 2017, Bank Indonesia projects Indonesia’s economic growth by 5.1%. This value is the biggest projected growth in the last three years. While the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs stated that the market is the backbone of the current Indonesian economy, especially the traditional markets. However, the number of traditional markets as the backbone of the economy is getting smaller when compared to the increasing number of modern markets. Based on data from the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) in 2010, the number of traditional markets in Indonesia reached 13,450 markets with around 12.6 million small traders (www.kppu.go.id). This number is far different from the number of modern markets as many as 23,000 units of shops consisting of 14,000 minimarket business groups and 9,000 supermarkets.
This is the reason for Telkom University to re-cooperate with ASPARINDO (Indonesian Market Management Association) by organizing Community Service activities targeting traditional markets, namely Cihargeulis Traditional Market to foster and provide training for local market traders. This Community Service Program was held on November 12, 2019, with the aim of providing training in improving financial management competencies for managers and traders of Cihargeulis Traditional Market. Overall, both traders and market managers accepted the event very well and enthusiastically, and felt the great benefits of this event. Traders were seen asking various questions and giving positive responses during the training.
Community Service Activities aimed at improving financial management competencies have been held regularly every year. In 2016 this event was held at Batu Catur Batujajar Market, in 2017 training was held at Banjaran Traditional Market, Ciparay Traditional Market, and Cililin Traditional Market, in 2018 it was held at Panorama Lembang Market, and in 2019 it was held again at Batujajar Market and Traditional Market Cihargeulis. This event is also targeted to continue to be carried out by targeting other traditional markets in Bandung, as one form of Telkom University’s dedication in community service activities to improve financial management competencies for local traditional traders.
